Windsor Newcomers Tour CK To Get Feel Of Community

Chatham-Kent held a first on Thursday morning.

The municipality teamed up with Collège Boréal in Windsor to teach about 80 newcomers about the many advantages of settling in the area.

Many of the questions they had were about jobs and housing.

Victoria Bodnar, the municipal Resident Attraction and Retention Coordinator, says there are many new opportunities for newcomers in Chatham-Kent.

"Things we'll be selling is available housing in Chatham-Kent, especially the competitive nature of our housing market and then available jobs. So, they'll get to meet with one of our local employers [Pioneer Seed] and get an idea about what different job opportunities exist in the community and that will help make their decision," says Bodnar.

She says the visitors toured the area to check out neighbourhoods and meet with potential employers and hopes there will be more tours in the future.

"The encouragement would be that they would come and live in Chatham and settle in Chatham. The support services are open now to help them settle in Chatham-Kent but most likely to focus on Chatham to begin," Bodnar says.

Bodnar says the goal is to sell the community and agrees with Mayor Randy Hope that Chatham-Kent is a safe and affordable place to live, work and play.

"Selling the lifestyle of Chatham-Kent and the quality of life that we have here, the recreational opportunities and the many amenities that Chatham-Kent has to offer while living in a fairly rural setting," says Bodnar.

Collège Boréal also opened a newcomer Settlement Services Office at 161 King St. W in Chatham on Thursday.
