In less than a week, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be stopping in Chatham.
It will be behind the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond St. on Thursday, November 30 at 2:30pm.
"You're looking at a 15 car length train with one engine and 14 cars that are highly decorated with lights, Christmas trees, and other holiday markings on them," says Sergeant Ron Kirst with the Canadian Pacific Police. "We have thousands and thousands of lights that light them up, and they travel with the lights on all the time. Even though we're coming through in the afternoon, it will be a spectacular view."
The event is free, but people are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Outreach for Hunger.
"We've got a large area set up for the public to set up and view the train," says Krist. "They're going to be set back a little bit so the views of the train are going to be fantastic. Lots of parking for the people as well."
Kirst says this is the 19th year for the CP Holiday Train.
"We're going to hit 171 cities across Canada and the United States. Since we've been running in 1999, we've raised over $13-million for local food banks, and 4-million pounds of food have been donated to food banks as well," he says.
Live music will start around 2:45pm.
"This year we have Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo fame, Devin Cuddy his son, and Kelly Presscott is going to be performing some of their own songs, plus some holiday favourites ."
