Chatham-Kent firefighters managed to save a dog from a blazing fire that caused extensive damage to a Merlin trucking company.
On Saturday at 2:24am, Chatham-Kent firefighters responded to a call of a structural fire at Sykes Aggregates trucking company on Fourteenth Line in Merlin.
Chatham-Kent Fire and EMS Assistant Chief Bob Davidson says the fire spread to three of garages, the company office, fuel tanks, and four harvest stores.
Davidson says firefighters worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to other nearby structures and moved several trucks away from the blaze. Firefighters were able to save a dog from the fire as well. He says no one was injured during the incident.
Davidson says damage to the site was so extensive that the cause of the fire could not be determined. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management was also notified.
According to Davidson, damage is estimated at $800,000.
Davidson reminds businesses to conduct regular fire drills to practice escape plans in the case of a fire.
