Dining out on Tuesday could be a treat for you, as well as for local programs at the United Way Chatham-Kent.
The organization is getting ready for "Giving Tuesday." It's an initiative in which some restaurants donate 25% of their proceeds towards the United Way's programs.
"We've got a bunch restaurants -- about 10 throughout Chatham-Kent who have signed on," says Tom Slager with United Way. "All you have to do is go out to eat and everyone wins -- the restaurant makes a little bit, United Way gets a donation from them, and you get a great meal. It's a fantastic way to spend a Tuesday."
"Giving Tuesday" is part of the United Way's "Paint the Town Red" campaign and is also part of a national movement.
"We brought it into Chatham-Kent to see how it would go," says co-chair Steve Pratt. "We tried it a little bit last year and it was really successful so we thought we would expand it a little bit this year."
Pratt says the initiative raised enough money last year to help about 40,000 people in Chatham-Kent.
"By simply going out for a bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you're going to be helping a lot of people in the community," he says.
