With up to 29 cm of snow in the forecast this weekend, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has declared a snow emergency.
That means a 72-hour parking ban is in place as residents are being asked to not park their vehicles on municipal streets or roads so plows can clear the snow more effectively.
The parking ban begins at 10am on Friday, February 9, and continues until 10am on Monday, February 12.
"We are asking motorists to make every effort to move their vehicles off the streets so that the plows can clear the roads more effectively," says Miguel Pelletier, director of Public Works. "We recognize that this is an inconvenience for the public. However, emergency vehicles, citizens and local businesses all depend on these streets being cleared as quickly as possible. The order will be rescinded as soon as road conditions warrant it to limit the inconvenience to residents."
