Environment Canada says Windsor-Essex broke a snowfall record on Friday, with Chatham-Kent and London following close behind.
Severe Weather Meteorologist Ria Alsen says Windsor-Essex broke the record by a few centimeters.
"We got 18.4cm of snow at Windsor airport during the day on Friday. The record for that date is 14.5cm, which was set back in 1970," says Alsen.
She says London and Chatham-Kent weren't too far off these numbers.
"London got to about 12cm, which actually worked out quite well--they weren't in the warning. We warned for 15cm in 12-hour window, so they were just below," explains Alsen. "I have some volunteer observers in Tecumseh, which they reported 16.5cm, and Dresden was 12.4cm."
Alsen says there is also potential for freezing rain and ice pellets in Windsor and Chatham-Kent on Sunday. She advises that residents check road and weather conditions before travelling.
She says there will be continuing snowfall these next few days.
"There's a bit of stationary front just to south of the lake and what's happening is there's waves of moisture coming along with this. That's what brought us our snow on Friday. We're expecting another one on Saturday, granted not as much snow--maybe 2cm to 4cm. There will be a little break overnight on Saturday and more snow on Sunday,"says Alsen.
