Residents living along the Sydenham River can breathe a sigh of relief as water levels continue to recede.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has announced that the gates at the W. Darcy McKeough Dam have started to gradually reopen. The gates closed Wednesday morning when a flood warning was issued.
"As water levels in Wallaceburg permit, the gates will be opened until the north branch can safely flow through Wallaceburg," as stated in a media release. "Water levels across the watershed will continue to fall through the weekend returning to normal levels by Monday, next week."
However, as of Friday afternoon, localized flooding continues and some road closures are still in place.
Residents are being reminded to stay away from flowing water. Flooding remains a major concern in Thamesville and Chatham.
