Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is warning people to be aware of counterfeit bills making their way to cash registers.
A local business has reported receiving two counterfeit Canadian $100 bills in one week. The fake bills are made to look like the 1969-1979 "scenes of Canada" series.

Officials with Crime Stoppers said these types of counterfeits started to appear in London and Sarnia in 2017.
"They are interesting because they are old style money and something many of us don't see anymore," as stated in a release from Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. "However, if someone presents one of these bills as payment in a retail setting, the clerk should be highly suspicious of the bills being counterfeit."
Distinguishing a real bill from a fake can be tricky as they may look and feel similar, but officials said missing security features and running ink are a telltale sign.
