CK police officer receives second sexual assault charge

A Chatham-Kent police officer accused of sexual assault was released on bail Friday but also picked up an additional charge.

Cst. Andrew Jaconelli made an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on Friday and was charged with sexual assault.  The embattled officer we previously charged in December with another count of sexual assault and one count of assault with a weapon. The new charge is related to an off-duty incident in August of 2018, while the other two are in connection with an incident that occurred while Jaconelli was off duty in November 2017.

CK police have also charged Jaconelli with two counts of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act, and the CKPS Professional Standards Branch is conducting further internal investigations.

Jaconelli made an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on Friday, and he was released with specific bail conditions to follow.  According to a news release from the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS), Jaconelli will appear in court again on Tuesday, January 8 in Chatham.

The CKPS said it became aware of the allegations against Jaconelli on November 27, 2018, and asked the Windsor Police Service to conduct a criminal investigation into the incident. Jaconelli has been suspended with pay since December 14.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
