CK police not involved in laser strike investigation

Chatham-Kent police have not been contacted yet to help investigate a laser strike that affected a Porter Airlines flight on its way from Toronto to Windsor.

A report filed with the Canadian Aviation Daily Report System said pilots with a Porter Airlines flight reported experiencing an incident involving a laser just before 8:30 p.m. on January 4, 2019, in the vicinity of Tupperville as their plane flying out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was making its initial approach for landing at Windsor International Airport.

A spokesperson for Porter Airlines said the pilots took "appropriate action" adding that "the flight arrived safely in Windsor without further incident." No injuries or damages were reported.

Chatham-Kent police Constable Renee Cowell said as of Monday morning, the local municipal police force had not been contacted to assist in any sort of investigation.

Pointing a laser at aircraft is considered a serious crime in Canada and is punishable by a fine of up to $100,000 and five years in jail.
