Environment Canada has ended its extreme cold warning for Southwestern Ontario.
The warning ended just before 11 a.m. Monday for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex, but continued until 1:45 p.m. for Middlesex County, Oxford County, and Elgin County.
Forecasters issued the warning Sunday morning because the temperature was expected to fall to around -10C throughout Sunday and -20C overnight. Windchill values of -30C were also predicted.
Wind chill values are expected to lessen as winds ease, but cold temperatures near -20C or colder are still expected Monday night.
According to Environment Canada, health risks associated with extreme cold are increased for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter.
They are reminding people that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin. They also warn residents that if it's too cold for you to stay outside it's also too cold for your pet.
Weather officials say milder wind is expected by Tuesday.
