Province invests in transit for Leamington, Chatham-Kent

The Ford government plans to give 39 municipalities across Ontario $30 million over five years to help residents get around.

The funding from the Ontario Community Transportation Grant Program is for municipalities with few public transportation options. Towns can use it to partner with community partners to improve transit to more destinations.

Leamington's share of the money is worth $606,040, while Chatham-Kent will get $500,000.

"We are working with municipalities to support programs that will help Ontarians stay connected to their communities, so they can access employment and social programs, attend appointments, visit friends and family, and maintain an independent and active lifestyle," said Minister of Transportation Jeff Yurek.

The program was founded in 2015, and since then, more than 28,000 people have used new services to make more than 105,000 trips.
