Chatham native Bridget Carleton is the 2019 winner of the Cheryl Miller Award for the best small forward in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
That wasn't the only honour the Iowa State player won. The senior was also named to the Naismith Starting 5.
"It's a huge honour to receive an award named after Cheryl Miller, who has been such a pioneer in bringing women's basketball to the forefront of athletics," Carleton said in a statement from Iowa State. "She was one of the best to play our game, and I am humbled to be recognized for this award and included in the Naismith Starting 5. This isn't possible without all of the opportunities Iowa State has given me. I am so thankful for my coaches and teammates putting me in the best positions to be successful during the last year."
Carleton had an outstanding season for the Cyclones, ranking in the top-10 in school history in nearly every category, including points scored, scoring average, field goals made, and field goals attempted.
Other honours the 21-year-old has won this season include WBCA All-American, Big 12 Player of the Year, Associated Press Second-Team All-American, ESPNW Second-Team All-American, USBWA Third-Team All-American, and Senior CLASS Award First-Team All-American.
