A Toronto Maple Leafs legend is coming to Dresden.
Doug Gilmour will be the guest speaker this year at the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony on Saturday, April 27.
Andrew Jackson at Jackson Events in Toronto is getting the credit for bringing him in.
"Andrew was born and raised in Dresden, so he always manages to secure us an excellent speaker," said committee member Brian McCabe. "In the past, we've had Bobby Hull, Johnny Bower, Darryl Sittler. Last year it was Paul Coffey, so we've always had a great lineup of speakers."
A number of people and a team will be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, including Tim Vitek as the male athlete.
"Tim was actually the first Dresden Minor Hockey player to be awarded a full athletic scholarship to the University of Massachusetts Amherst," said McCabe. "And then played five years in the Central Hockey League and the Southern Professional Hockey League."
The female athlete being inducted is Amanda Curtis.
"Her maiden name was, of course, Anderson," said McCabe. "She played five years of varsity basketball with the Western Mustangs, was the Canadian University Rookie of the Year, five-time Conference All-Star, two-time All-Canadian, and ended her career as the Mustangs all-time leading scorer."
The other inductees this year include Paul McKellar as a builder, Malcolm MacPhail in the legend category, and the team being inducted is the 1973-74 Dresden Pacers Midget Hockey Team.
