MS Society gearing up for annual walk

The Chatham-Kent Chapter of the MS Society is looking for walkers to support its upcoming Mandarin MS Walk.

Local fundraising co-ordinator Courtney Quinn said money raised during the walk will help support local multiple sclerosis initiatives.

"Helping fund our education sessions, our support groups and also our equipment for those individuals that have MS in the community. So that's a vital piece of it that goes towards the community," explained Quinn. "As well as there is a tiny piece of it that goes towards research to help find a cure for MS."

It is free to register for the walk and anyone who signs up collects pledges that go towards the cause. According to Quinn, they were able to raise $25,393 in 2018 and this year they have a goal of $24,000.

"That is a pretty big goal but I believe it can be hit because we have such an amazing community that supports us," she said.

The walk takes place on May 5 at Tecumseh Park in Chatham with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Those interested can sign up online by clicking here or can register the day of the walk. The walk features routes of varying length and has a wheelchair accessible option.

"You see everyone that is impacted," Quinn said. "Everyone comes together, they walk and it's a great sense of community when you're walking with someone that you don't know but you're in it together."
