An information session is being held in hopes of teaching the public about the impact of Asian carp.
The Invasive Species Centre, through the Asian Carp Canada program, is organizing the session to discuss the threat that grass carp, in addition to other species of Asian carps, have on the Great Lakes.
Asian carp eat up to 40 per cent of their weight in a single day and have become a threat to commercial and sport fisheries.
The evening will feature a panel of experts to discuss the topic as well as a question and answer session.
“Anglers, boaters, commercial fisherman, and concerned community members all play a critical role in preventing the establishment of these invasive species,” said Rebecca Schroeder, Asian carp project manager at the Invasive Species Centre. “By staying informed and reporting sightings, we protect biodiversity, commercial and recreational fisheries and other lifestyle activities in the Great Lakes Basin.”
The information session will be held on August 19 from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Point Pelee National Park Visitor Centre in Leamington.
