Despite the winter conditions, residents who live along the Lake Erie shoreline are not getting a break from possible flooding concerns.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued a flood watch for the Lake Erie shoreline and Erie Shore Drive.
Conservation officials said a strong wind warning has been issued by Environment Canada. Winds are expected to gust between 30 and 35 kilometres an hour, starting Wednesday evening. The strong wind gusts may create powerful waves, reaching up to three metres in height.
The most vulnerable area at this point is Erie Shore Drive.
However, in addition to the wind and wave action out on Lake Erie, the freezing temperatures also pose a risk.
"Wave spray and floodwaters could freeze against structures and across the ground," read a release from the LTVCA. "This could block building exits, seal up exhaust vents from homes, or lead to treacherous walking and driving conditions."
Residents are asked to be especially careful around the shoreline as it may be slippery.
The flood watch will remain in effect until Friday.
