Farm Boy cheese balls recalled over Listeria concerns

Six Farm Boy brand cheese balls have been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.

Test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) triggered the recall on Sunday.

The affected products are as follows:

  • 360 g Cheese Ball Trio – Fiesta, Cranberry Pecan, Bacon Cheddar with UPC starting with 0 238211
  • 180 g Blue Cheese & Walnut Ball with UPC starting with 0 238274
  • 180 g Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball with UPC 8 08912 00884 4 or starting with 0 232337

  • 180 g White Chocolate Pecan Cranberry Ball with UPC starting with 0 238275
  • 180 g Bacon Cheddar Cheese Ball with UPC 8 08912 00885 1 or starting with 0 238284
All six of the recalled cheese balls were sold across Ontario up to and including Sunday.

Customers who purchased any of the recalled products are advised not to eat them and to either throw them away or return them to the store.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The illness can cause death in severe cases.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled products, the CFIA said.
