The Chatham Maroons defeated the Komoka Kings 9-6 on Saturday.
Griffin Robinson kicked off the game with a swift goal 0:52 into the first period, followed by a goal from Dallas Maurovic for the Maroons. Komoka's Dario Beljo scored 18:13 into the frame. Zach Power responded with his first goal of the night for the Maroons.
Beljo started the second period with a goal at 3:28. Power scored two consecutive goals just a minute apart from each other. Kobe Ferreira scored 9:14 in the frame for the Kings. Beljo scored once again 17:06 into the frame.
Dallas Maurovic started the third period with a power-play goal at 2:56, which Tate Bowden followed for the Maroons. The Kings' Joey Studnicka responded with a goal 0:25 seconds later. Adrian Stubberfield scored for the Maroons which was quickly countered by a power-play goal from the Kings' Blake McConnell-Barker. Griffen ended the game with an empty-net goal.
Maroons goalie Kevin Linker saved 33 out of 39 shots on net.
It was a high-scoring game that saw Chatham player Zach Power scoring his first junior hat trick and three goals in the first half of the game, a feat he says his teammates encouraged.
"The boys were kinda joking with me saying get another one or keep going. I was trying and got a few chances," he said.
Coming off of tonight's win, the Maroons will face-off against the Strathroy Rockets at the Chatham Memorial Arena on Sunday. The team is hoping to continue its success.
"We're just trying to take it one game at a time. Definitely trying to get on a winning streak here," said Power.
