Police pursue impaired driver
A drunk driver led officers on a high-speed chase early Saturday morning.
According to police, shortly after midnight officers on general patrol saw a vehicle speeding with sparks flying from the wheels.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off from police, ignoring traffic lights along the way.
After a brief pursuit, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot at the driver was arrested for impaired operation of a vehicle.
The driver was transported to the OPP station for a breathalyzer and registered double over the legal limit. The driver was charged with an impaired, being over the legal limit as well as three Highway Traffic Act Offences.
Domestic assault leads to charges
A man is facing two charges after allegedly assaulting a woman.
Police say they responded to a complaint Friday at a residence in Wallaceburg. Through investigation, they learned that the man had shoved the woman against a wall. Previously, he had also threatened physical harm.
He was located, arrested for uttering threats and assault and taken to the police station where he was held for a bail hearing.
Man with eight warrants attempts to flee from police
On Friday, an officer on general patrol spotted a man he knew had an outstanding warrant.
When the man saw the police, he ran away. However, the pursuit didn't last long and he was found shortly after in a backyard.
The Chatham man was arrested on eight outstanding warrants and transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
Shoplifting in Chatham
Cologne is the reason one man is now in trouble with the law.
According to police, on Friday the Chatham man went into a store on St. Clair Street and allegedly walked out with $80 worth of cologne while making no attempts to pay for it.
He was located in the area, arrested and released with a future court date.
