Duke’s Harley-Davidson closing for good

After 15 years of business in Chatham-Kent, Duke’s Harley-Davidson will be permanently closing its doors in early 2020.

The Blenheim store announced the closure nearly two weeks ahead of the new year. A tenant to lease the building will be sought following the closure -- to which an exact date has not been disclosed.

Chatham-Kent resident Rob Myers established the dealership in 2005 after developing a passion for bikes and entrepreneurship.

“As an absentee owner, I thank my staff for their incredible hard work and leadership over the last 15 years," said Myers in a statement. "Duke’s is something I always thought would be a good business for a husband-and-wife team to be a partner of mine in, but I was never able to find the right partner.”

In an effort to get rid of some of the inventory, the store will be holding last-minute holiday sales and Boxing Day blowouts. Although all items purchased during the liquidation are final sale, Duke’s Harley-Davidson will honour pre-existing agreements made in regards to motorcycle storage and repairs.

Blackburn News is waiting to hear back from officials on how many staff will be affected by the closure.
