Going outside and being more active may be more crucial during this year's Bike Month as many people have been spending more time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the month of June, the Municipality's Parks and Open Spaces department along with public health officials are encouraging residents to participate in Bike Month.
The cycling initiative encourages people to increase physical activity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Bike Month may also spur residents into discovering or revisiting some of the trails within Chatham-Kent.
Bike Month is also kickstarted by Canadian Environment Week, which runs from May 31 until June 6.
As an incentive, municipal officials are encouraging participants to take a photo of themselves or their families cycling in Chatham-Kent for a chance to win a prize.
Each week, three pictures will be chosen and featured on the Chatham Kent Trails Facebook page, the Trails Chatham Kent Instagram page, and the Chatham-Kent Public Health Facebook page. Those who are featured will receive a prize pack. Photos will be shared on Fridays.
To enter the contest, residents must email a picture to CKTrails@chatham-kent.ca and include the full names of everyone in the photo. It must also include the location of which the photo was taken (community and trail or street name).

In the meantime, cycle-enthusiasts can also participate in the provincial initiative during Bike Month. Residents who log their cycling trips through the Active Switch online tool will have a chance to win a $500 Sport Chek gift card.
