A low-pressure system moving through the region may cause some flooding along the Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron shorelines.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) issued a flood watch on Tuesday afternoon after areas across the watershed received between 15-40 millimetres of rain.
Conservation officials said a high amount of rain during a short period of time may lead to increased runoff and flash flooding in some areas, such as Wallaceburg and Brights Grove.
"Strong westerly winds in this region are causing a backwater effect in the Wallaceburg area and elevating water levels," read a release from the SCRCA. "Residents along the [Lake St. Clair] shoreline may experience wind-driven flooding and wave action, with a potential for erosion."
Winds from the west are also expected to gust up to 50 kilometres per hour on Lake Huron overnight, which may result in waves reaching two metres in height. As a result, flooding is possible along the Lake Huron shoreline, especially the Old Lakeshore Road area of Brights Grove.
Possible flooding may affect the following roads:- Nelson Street between Wall Street and Trafalgar Street
- Otter Line
- Emily Street at Elizabeth Street
- Main Street in Mitchell’s Bay east of Hinkle Point Road, as well as several side streets in the village
- Waterworks Road north of Courtright Line
Residents are asked to be careful around shorelines as they may be slippery.
The flood watch will remain in effect until Thursday.
