Tourism Sarnia-Lambton is planning an innovative experience so we don't miss out on Canada Day events this year.
Executive Director Mark Perrin said you'll be able to view a virtual celebration and fireworks from anywhere within Lambton County.
"You download the snapd media app on a smartphone or tablet, android and those type of devices and from the app it already displays a countdown that's live, which will run at 9:30 p.m. on July 1 when the fireworks show will take place," said Perrin.
He said the augmented reality platform will give people something special to commemorate the day.
"You essentially hold your phone or your device up to the sky, or even inside, it will work in any room and show you fireworks virtually in front of you."
Former astronaut and Sarnia native Chris Hadfield will lead the final countdown at 9:30 p.m. July 1.
A virtual Canada Day parade is also planned.
It will be live-streamed by The Show with David Burrows at 2 p.m. on his Facebook page and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/davburrows.
