Residents across Lambton County are encouraged to participate in a massive food drive next month to help those struggling during the pandemic.
A volunteer committee has organized an event called "Neighbour 2 Neighbour," that it hopes will be Lambton County's biggest rural food drive in history.
Dawn-Euphemia Mayor Al Broad said the concept is simple.
"We're asking people across Lambton to help people struggling to put food on the table during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Broad. "We're asking people to place canned or non-perishable food items on their porch or at the end of their driveway, weather dependent, on Saturday, November 7 by noon."
Broad said over 680,000 pounds of food was collected in a county-wide food drive in Chatham-Kent in May.
"Essex County followed Chatham-Kent's lead and brought in more than 900,000 pounds of food. Who knows what Lambton can do."
Broad said they need lots of volunteers to pull it off.
"Aside from donating a can or two, we need families to be part of the crew picking up donations," he said. "In more rural areas, we need people to volunteer to host a rural drop-off point."
