Wallaceburg commuters may have to plan a different travel route for the next three months to accommodate the closure of the Base Line Bridge.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor for rehabilitation work on the bridge to start on October 19.
Base Line Bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic until approximately January 15, 2021.
Specialized paving work is expected to take place sometime in the spring which will require an additional closure. However, municipal officials said details on that will be released at a later date.
Small boats on the Sydenham River will be able to pass as a navigational opening of 2.6 metres by 12 metres will remain in place during the construction process. As of 7 p.m. on October 25, all other marine traffic will not be able to pass.
Earlier this year, Chatham-Kent Council approved some much-needed upgrades to the bridge but voted to keep it as a moveable structure.
