Five new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor-Essex region saw five new COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, two cases are from close contact with confirmed cases, one case is community-acquired and two cases are still under investigation.

As of Saturday, there are now 2,762 confirmed cases in the region, 49 of which are active cases. A total of 2,637 individuals have recovered from the virus so far in Windsor-Essex.

There are currently multiple workplace outbreaks in the region- a farm in Kingsville, a construction workplace in Lakeshore and a food and beverage service workplace in Kingsville. Regency Park, a long-term care home in Windsor, is also currently in a COVID-19 outbreak. There are no school breaks in Windsor-Essex.

Elsewhere, health officials in Ontario reported 805 new cases of the virus on Saturday, bringing the provincial case count to 63,713. A total of 85.8 per cent of Ontario's cases are recovered.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
