The Grey Bruce Public Health officer says some of the people connected to a cluster of COVID-19 cases in the Municipality of South Bruce Peninsula failed to guard against the virus over the past two weeks.
Eight cases have been reported in that municipality over the past number of days. However, Dr. Ian Arra says additional community response, such as closing facilities, is not required unless directed by Public Health.
Arra says case management undertaken by the Grey Bruce Health Unit assessed the risk for a significant number of contacts associated with some of these cases.
He says containing the outbreak requires cases to provide all details of all contacts, and failure to do that hinders Public Health investigations.
He stresses individuals that failed to provide complete information could put others at risk. He adds they are predisposing themselves to the possibility of Section 22 Order under the Health Protection and Promotion Act that is may entail serious fines and civil court action for injunction on an expedited basis.
He notes the first case identified in a cluster, including this one, is not necessary the source case that transmitted to other cases in the cluster.
On Friday, the municipality of South Bruce Peninsula closed the Wiarton Arena and Sauble Beach Community Centre facilities for two weeks. And members of the public are not be permitted to enter Town Hall.
