Two long-term care homes are now under outbreak protocol in Perth County, Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton and Mitchell Nursing Home.
According to Huron Perth Public Health, one asymptomatic staff tested positive on retesting at Knollcrest Lodget.
At Mitchell Nursing Home, an asymptomatic staff tested positive during routine surveillance testing and results on the retest are pending. But an outbreak was declared out of an abundance of caution.
The outbreak also continues at Cedarcroft Retirement Place in Stratford, with a total of 23 confirmed cases, 17 residents and six staff. Outbreak control measures are in place at Cedarcroft and the HPPH outbreak management team continues to work closely with the home to prevent further spread.
A death was reported Sunday, the third since an outbreak was declared at Cedarcroft on October 28.
HPPH also acknowledges partners who are collaborating together to support this facility, including Perth County Paramedic Services, and Ontario Health partners such as the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and the South West Local Health Integration Network.
“HPPH appreciates the staff at Cedarcroft and all of our retirement and long-term care homes who are working hard to care for their residents while also taking all the appropriate precautions to prevent the spread of the virus,” said Dr. Miriam Klassen.

“We must all act as if we could come into contact with COVID-19 anywhere in any community and act as if we could pass COVID-19 on unknowingly,” said Dr. Klassen.
