Two flavours of ice cream are being voluntarily recalled by Kawartha Dairy over concerns there could be small metal pieces within one of the ingredients used.
The recalled products include chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chip ice cream sold throughout Ontario in 1.5-litre and 11.4-litre tubs.
"We detected the possibility of small metal pieces in the chocolate chips provided by one of our suppliers," Kawartha Dairy CEO Brian Kerr said in a statement posted to social media. "The potential metal pieces are very small and have a very low risk of posing a choking hazard."
The Bobcaygeon-based ice cream-maker notified the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) about the issue.
In a statement issued Sunday, the CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation which may lead to the recall of other products.
Anyone who currently has the affected flavours of ice cream in their freezer is advised to toss them into the garbage or return them to the store where purchased.
To date, there have been no reported injuries or consumer complaints associated with the consumption of the affected products.
