UPDATE: Third person tests positive for COVID-19 following outbreak at Stratford General Hospital

Another case of COVID-19 has been identified on the Medicine Unit at Stratford General Hospital on Saturday.

A total of three staff have been affected. On Thursday, the hospital announced that two cases were identified in staff prompting them to declare an outbreak. No patients have acquired the virus while in the hospital.

Officials say outbreak status refers to two cases, within a 14-day period, that could reasonably have been acquired in the hospital.

President and CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, Andrew Williams, says affected staff are currently self-isolating at home and will not return to work until their self-isolation period is complete and they are asymptomatic.

“Out of an abundance of caution we have now undertaken prevalence testing in close to 90 staff and physicians, up from the previously 70 reported, since the outbreak started,” said Williams.

On Thursday, Williams also noted that all outbreak control measures remain in place and there has been no transmission to other patient care areas of the hospital.
