Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 Immunization Task Force is identifying locations where public inoculation clinics will be held once the area has an adequate supply of vaccine.
Fixed sites include the Point Edward Arena/Optimist Club Community Hall, the Wyoming Fairgrounds, and Forest Kimball Hall.
Lambton Public Health said it's working closely with the City of Sarnia to pilot an innovative drive-up option that will serve those with mobility issues. Occasional mobile sites in Brooke-Alvinston, Oil Springs and St. Clair Township are also being explored.
The health unit stresses that none of the locations will become operational until more vaccines become available, and they'll be subject to the provincial government's eligibility and priority group guidelines.
During the week of January 25, the Mobile Immunization Team administered all of the 500-dose first shipment of vaccine to five long-term care and high-risk retirement homes, as well as an Indigenous Elder Care facility at Kettle & Stony Point First Nation.
Lambton Public Health said it expects a small shipment of additional vaccines to arrive this week and further immunizations will be administered to the remaining Phase 1 priority group beginning next week. Planning is underway for vaccine distribution for Phase 2 of the rollout that includes hospital-affiliated healthcare workers, First Nations communities, regulated health professions, and recipients of chronic home healthcare.
