Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce a provincewide stay-at-home order on Wednesday.
The news broke late Tuesday evening after a cabinet meeting. Premier Ford reportedly approved the plan that has restrictions similar to the lockdown imposed in late December.
According to several media reports, non-essential retail stores would be limited to curbside pickup.
One report said grocery stores and pharmacies will be permitted to stay open, while big-box retail stores would be restricted to selling only grocery and pharmacy essentials. Garden centres may also be allowed to stay open, the reports said.
No other details have been provided on if schools will have to shift to remote learning following the April Break.
The move follows Ford's recent decision to call an "emergency brake" which took effect on Saturday. The premier is expected to make the announcement with more details Wednesday afternoon with the stay-at-home order to begin at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
Ontario reported over 3,000 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths on Tuesday.
