Teva Canada Limited has voluntarily recalled two different lots of acetaminophen tablets because of a labelling error.
The maximum daily dose listed on the bottle is incorrect.
The recall is for the Novo-Gesic Forte 500 mg tablets. One bottle contains 100 tablets, while the other, 1,000.
For the smaller bottle, the lot number is 35364729A and 35217483A for the larger one. The expiry date on both is June 30, 2023.
The label reads the maximum dose is 4,000 mg or 12 tablets a day when it should say eight tablets.
Taking more than the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen cause liver damage. Symptoms include yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, sweating, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, and loss of appetite. The most severe case can be fatal.
So far, there have been no reports of adverse events in Canada.
Consumers with these products are advised to stop using them and return them to the store where they bought them.
