If you've planned to spend some time outdoors this weekend, you may want to take a rain check.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday afternoon, stating heavy periods of rain are expected to soak most of the region beginning late Thursday. The advisory was issued for parts of southwestern Ontario, including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties, as well as Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce.
Remnants of tropical depression Pamela, which slammed Mexico's pacific coast as a hurricane earlier this week, are moving northwest across the United States and into southern Ontario. Meteorologists predict rainfall amounts could reach between 30-40 millimetres by Saturday morning, while amounts closer to 50 mm are possible for some areas.
The weather agency said the system is capable of producing thunderstorms. Rainfall warnings may be issued later on as the system moves in.
