The Chatham Maroons suffered a 7-5 defeat against the London Nationals during an away game Wednesday night.
London proved to be a fierce opponent from the start. Not even a minute into the first period, the Nationals took a shot on the Maroons net putting them on the board first. London secured a second goal 16:31 into the period and took a third with just under a minute left in the frame to end the period up 3-0 on Chatham.
As the teams skated into the second period, David Brown scored 12:27 into second giving the Maroons their first goal of the game. The team bumped themselves up a short time later with a second goal just over a minute after the first by Cameron Symons.
With less than two minutes left in the second frame, Symons tried his hand on London's net again and succeeded, tying things up 3-3.
Heading into third, both teams upped their game. The Nationals worked to break the tie with two more goals 1:58 and 3:22 into the period putting the score at 5-3. Noah Szabo responded 5:30 into the third frame with a fourth goal for the team.
The teams spent the remainder of the third period going back and forth. The Nationals scored a sixth goal in an effort to drive themselves further ahead of Chatham. Symons took his third shot on London's net allowing the Maroons to trail 6-5. London finished the game with a seventh goal with 53 seconds left, ending the game ahead 7-5.
Maroons goaltender Brenden Stroble made 24 saves of 30 shots on net.
Chatham will head back home on Sunday to play the St. Marys Lincolns on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
