A local trucking convoy that rolled through Chatham-Kent on Thursday morning got lots of support along Highway 401 and on overpasses.
The convoy left Comber around 9 a.m. and drove east to eventually meet convoys from other areas in Ottawa for a protest on Saturday.
Convoy supporters at the overpass in Tilbury said it's important to show protesting truckers that they're behind them.
Supporter Bernadette Renaud-Lavin said she just wants the pandemic and all of its rules to go away.
"Get rid of these mandates. This has got to stop, it's been too long. This is all BS," said Renaud-Lavin.
Local convoy organizer Ben Peters said he's happy with the turnout and claims the convoy is not just about the vaccine mandate, it's about all mandates and restrictions.
The truckers are protesting the vaccine mandate that came into effect on January 15. It requires Canadian truck drivers crossing the border back into Canada to be fully vaccinated in order to avoid testing requirements and a two-week quarantine. Unvaccinated American drivers will also be denied entry into the country. The United States also requires truckers who are crossing into the U.S. to be vaccinated.
