Premier Doug Ford was in Stratford Wednesday morning to make an announcement alongside Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
They were at DYNA-MIG in Stratford to announce a $5-million investment across the auto sector to prepare 500 new workers for jobs in the sector. Ford says the auto sector needs more skilled workers to help build cars of the future.
"These workers will come from underrepresented groups and this program will develop the skills they need to succeed for in-demand careers in assembly, logistics, quality control, and more."
Ford says the underrepresented groups the program will target include youth, women, newcomers, and racialized communities.
"We're working with our partners in the Automotive Parts Manufacturing Association to deliver job placements across their network for over 300 employers all across this province. At the end of their training, every participant will receive a job offer from a local employer, leading directly to a good job and a bigger paycheque for hundreds of Ontario workers."
Currently, Ford claims there are over 380,000 unfilled jobs across many sectors in Ontario.
