Officials in Michigan say they thwarted a case of attempted human smuggling on the St. Clair River early Tuesday morning.
At around 3 a.m., border patrol agents spotted a vessel on the river near Algonac, across from Walpole Island, cross the international border near a historically known smuggling route.
Agents from Marysville responded and found three people in the area.
An agent interviewed the trio, whom all admitted to having just crossed the border from Canada in a boat. They were taken into custody and transported to the border patrol station for processing.
One of the subjects was a 53-year-old Dominican National man, along with a pair of women aged 25 and 26 from Mexico.
Chief Patrol Agent Robert Danley commented on the case.
"Intercepting this was made possible by technology and the teamwork of our agents and support personal." said Danley. "I am proud of the vigilance and dedication to duty displayed by the men and women of Detroit Sector."
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said all subjects will be processed accordingly.
