A local initiative is helping young children be a little bit less intimidated by the school bus come September.
Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS), along with local school bus operators will host “First Time Rider Orientation Day” on August 20.
The school bus safety program is for JK to Grade 1 students from the Lambton Kent District School Board and St. Clair Catholic District School Board.
"Parents are encouraged to bring their children to this free session, where they will watch a brief animated school bus safety video and then have the opportunity to board a bus and go for a short ride together," school board officials said through a media release.
Safety trainers will also be onsite to talk to the children and parents about basic school bus safety rules, how to cross the street safely and how to leave a bus in case of an emergency.
The sessions will run continuously from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and are approximately one-half hour in duration at the following locations:
- Great Lakes Secondary School – 340 Murphy Road., Sarnia - Ursuline College - 85 Grand Avenue West, Chatham
