Ridgetown man arrested after hitting pedestrian, fleeing the scene

A 38-year-old Ridgetown man is facing charges after he allegedly hit a woman with his vehicle after she had just stepped out of her vehicle on Main Street in Ridgetown.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, adding that the 66-year-old Howard Township woman was hit by a passing vehicle just after she exited her vehicle.

Police said the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, then airlifted to a Windsor hospital for further treatment.

Officers said the driver who hit her didn't stop at the scene, but police were able to find the vehicle and the driver after taking some witness statements and reviewing video surveillance.

A 38-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision resulting in bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and two Highway Traffic Act offences.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
