Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement to a freezing rain warning for parts of southern Ontario ahead of a messy winter storm that is set to hit the region Monday.
Environment Canada says the regions of Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, Huron-Perth, Grey-Bruce, as well as Wellington, Elgin, Norfolk, and Oxford Counties should be prepared for another ice storm.
Precipitation will start on Monday, likely in the form of snow or ice pellets that will later develop into freezing rain. These conditions will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts up to 70 or 80 kilometres per hour.
The freezing rain is expected to transition to showers or flurries that will continue into Monday night.
"Given these strong winds and potentially significant ice accretions, local power outages will be possible," said a statement from Environment Canada.
The weather agency warns that a freezing rain warning may be issued in the coming days. Residents are advised to monitor the forecast for updates and changes.
