Some temporary lane closures in Ridgetown Wednesday evening will serve as a visible reminder to drivers that they share the road with cyclists.
The Chatham-Kent 4-H Bike Club will once again be hosting the Ride of Silence, forming up at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ridgetown College Parking lot by the Rudy Brown Building.
It's part of a global event to honour cyclists who have either been injured or lost their lives while cycling on public roadways.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 20 kilometres per hour, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees.
The ride will head out from the Ridgetown Campus buildings, heading west on Cathcart Street and then North on Victoria Avenue, before making its way through town and then heading back to Cecil Street North, concluding at the University of Guelph Ridgetown campus.
There will be some temporary lane closures along the cycling route, which will proceed with a police escort.
Drivers should expect minor delays as emergency traffic and local traffic will still have access at all times.
