Llama on the loose in CK

A Shrewsbury man got the surprise of his life on Thursday when he saw a llama on the loose while on his way to work.

Gregory Dennis told CK News Today he saw the carefree llama prancing around on Highway 3 near Greenview Park and Zoo in Morpeth Thursday morning.

Dennis said he couldn't believe what he was seeing, adding the exotic animal looked like it didn't have a care in the world.

"I got stopped by a transport, it's completely stopped, nothing is going on, I can't see what's happening ahead of him. So, I'm just waiting. I look to the left and I see this Alpaca doing burnout circles in the field just having the time of his life. Just prancing and looking like he's having a great time," said Dennis.

Dennis said seeing the exotic llama in Chatham-Kent was a first for him and he decided to take a video because he thought nobody would believe him otherwise.

"What else do you do? You sip your coffee. You look around and make sure you're fully awake and seeing what you're seeing. You just have to take it for what it is, you kind of laugh. If I got up close I might want to take it home because it looked pretty cute and it was having a good time," he told CK News Today.

It's not the first time a Chatham-Kent resident has seen an exotic animal running around these parts this year. A kangaroo was seen hopping around Reeder's Line in Howard Township in early January 2024. It was a short-lived adventure after it made a daring escape from Greenview Park and Zoo on Talbot Trail.
