Trump guilty on all counts

For the first time in the history of the United States, a former President is now a convicted felon.

The jury in Donald Trump's hush money trial returned guilty verdicts on all 34 counts the former President was facing. The charges stemmed from hush money payments made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels, who said she has sexual relations with Trump.

Trump was accused of 34 counts of falsifying business records to keep the payments to Daniels secret during the 2016 President Election campaign.

Sentencing is set for July 11, which is just days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump is to officially be designated as the party's nominee for President.

While it is possible Trump could be sentenced to prison, it is not assured. He could be fined for each count. However, if he is incarcerated, the maximum sentence for his crimes is four years in prison.

Trump will almost certainly appeal the convictions, and will remain free during any appeal.

The former President's legal woes are far from over. He still faces three other indictments related to allegations he conspired to overturn the 2020 election, as well as allegations he mishandled classified documents.
