Crowfest to return one month early in Chatham-Kent

The third annual Crowfest is returning to Chatham-Kent this month.

Downtown Chatham will be filled with performances, food, and everything to do with crows from September 18 to September 21.

The event was moved up to September compared to the last two years when it was held in October.

Busker Coordinator Jay Henderson explained why organizers decided to move the event up.

"There's a real appetite for a busker festival and everyone had a great time on the Friday last year and the Saturday the year before, but unfortunately with the cool weather, wet weather, we decided to move it up," he said.

Henderson said things for this year's festival are coming along.

"We had our lead busker come on board, we've been trying to book him for a little while and they confirmed last week, so that's going to be Catwall Acrobats," he said.

The event will kick off with the Olde Crows Tea at 11:30 a.m. on September 18 at the Links of Kent Golf Course, and CK's Got Talent will be held at The Garden and River Rock on King Street at 6 p.m.

On the night of September 19, the third annual gala will be held at Everest Convention Centre. This year's theme is a Mask-Crowade Ball.

The following day, on September 20, King Street will close at 1 p.m. for festival entertainment from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., including an art exhibit at ARTspace.

The fun will continue on September 21 with musical entertainment, vendors, and a costume contest.

The event will then finish with Busk After Dust at the Crowbar.

"All the buskers that are performing are all very family friendly and they do that on the street Friday and Saturday and then there is the after show which is 19+. So they go in and push the limits and have some fun with the crowd," said Henderson.

Anyone looking for information or tickets can go on the Crowfest website.
