Chatham business looking at $2K bill after break-in

Frustrated may be the best word to describe how the owners of Chatham’s Sweet C's Cookie Creations are currently feeling.

The small business was broken into early Tuesday morning.

Co-owner Ray Butler told CK News he believes who ever broke in probably used a crowbar as the locks on the backdoor were destroyed.

Roughly 80 per cent of supplies were taken.

“They went through our fridges, took some of our fridge items, they took my lockbox, they stole all the money out of our tills, and some of the stuff on our displays,” said Butler.

He explained they do have video surveillance inside the building, however, it wasn’t looking at the till or displays.

“Unfortunately, before I left [on Monday] I put the camera out towards the road as we had some vandalism that went on earlier in the week,” Butler added.

Fixing the damage to the back door and replacing the stolen supplies is expected to cost the business around $2,000.

Despite the break-in, Butler noted they were still able to open to the public on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chatham-Kent police say a 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged with breaking and entering and theft under $5,000. He has since been released from custody with a future court date.
