CKHA receives funding from Legion for new laryngoscopes

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has new equipment for the operating room thanks to funding from the Royal Canadian Legion.

The hospital recently received over $6,700 to purchase three video laryngoscopes.

Christine Mitchell, president and CEO of the CKHA Foundation, told CK News Today these machines are used during many procedures.

“Our anesthesiologists use them to find airways in order to perform intubations,” she said.

The hospital now has six laryngoscopes. Mitchell explained they need more of them since the number of surgeries continues to increase due to people living longer.

The funds are specifically coming from the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command. The CKHA Foundation applied for one of the organization’s annual grants, ultimately being chosen after explaining what they needed the funds for.

Mitchell noted it puts a smile on her face anytime they can get funding to purchase much needed equipment.

“The hospital has growing needs each year,” she added.

The CKHA has already received the new laryngoscopes. Mitchell said they purchased them when they found out that had been chosen to receive the funds.

“Just like with Amazon who says the shipment will be there in two days, we’re quickly learning that shipment is coming in two days,” she explained.

The arrival of the laryngoscopes comes around the same time the hospital received two new electrocardiogram (ECG) stress testing systems.
