CK Alert emergency notification service is now live

A new "real time" emergency notification service has been launched in Chatham-Kent.

The municipality said the new "CK Alert" system will increase timely, accurate, and reliable communications to residents during times of emergency.

CK Alert is designed to provide immediate notification to Chatham-Kent residents in the event of emergencies such as flooding, boil water advisories, emergency bridge closures, and much more, according to the municipality.

Municipal officials noted that Chatham-Kent residents must sign up for the free service to receive notifications. Residents can sign up to receive emergency notifications by clicking here. The service is operated by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Residents can receive alerts through text messages or email and those without access to a cell phone or email can receive pre-recorded messages to a landline phone.

“During times of emergency, every second counts. We’re always looking for the fastest, most accessible way to reach residents with accurate information,” said Manager of Corporate Communications Eric Labadie. “CK Alert provides a way for residents to receive updates immediately when an emergency takes place, directly to the device of their choosing, in order to make informed decisions to stay safe.”

Labadie added CK Fire and Rescue secured funding from the provincial government to provide this emergency notification service to Chatham-Kent residents and it will come at "no cost" to taxpayers for the next five years.
