Registration is now open for the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent (ASCK) annual walk.
The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's will take place on Saturday, May 24 at Kingston Park in Chatham from 10 a.m. until Noon.
Up to 150 people are expected, and the goal this year is to raise $70,000.
"That stay right within Chatham-Kent," said Joel Emery, Fundraising & Community Engagement Coordinator. "We do get this question every year, and it all stays in Chatham-Kent and directly supports all our programs and services that support our community."
The ASCK runs a number of programs locally thay many in the communuity don't even know about.
"We have the day program, and that's where you can drop off your loved one and they enjoy a full day of activities at our Chatham office, and we also have it in our Wallaceburg office," said Emery. "We also have in-home respite care, where PSW's can come to the home and be with them, and give a little bit of respite for the caregiver or care partner. We have counselling, we have support groups."
The walk will also have live music, a petting farm, door prizes, and more. To register for the walk, visit www.walkforalzheimers.ca.
But the walk is not the only event the ASCK is planning this spring.
"We also have a 50/50 raffle, and we have some trivia events happening at Red Barn Brewing and at Turns and Tales, also in the month of May," said Emery.
The 50/50 raffle has a starting jackpot of $5,000 thanks to Enbridge. Tickets can be purchased online at www.asck5050.com, or at the ASCK office. Volunteers will also be out in the community selling tickets in person ahead of the draw on May 30.
The trivia events are taking place at Turns and Tales in Chatham on Sunday, May 4, and at Red Barn Brewing Company near Blenheim on Tuesday, May 27.
